Apple Introduces iOS 26: A Big, Beautiful Change for the iPhone
At Apple’s WWDC 2025 event, they introduced a major update for the iPhone called iOS 26. This version comes with a brand-new look, cool features, and a fresh name to match Apple’s other software like macOS 26 and watchOS 26. iOS 26 will be released in the fall with the new iPhone 17, but developers get early access now, and the public can try it in July.
A New Look: Liquid Glass
The biggest visual change is called Liquid Glass. This design makes everything on the iPhone look like smooth, clear glass that reacts to light and colors. There’s even a new "All Clear" mode where app icons look like clear glass. The lock screen is smarter, adjusting to show parts of your wallpaper or notifications better.
Simpler Camera and Photos Apps
The Camera app is now super simple — just swipe to choose photo or video, and swipe up for more settings. The Photos app is easier to scroll and has a cleaner menu at the bottom.
Better Phone Calls
The Phone app looks cleaner and now has useful tools. Call Screening answers unknown calls and only rings if the caller says their name and reason. Hold Assist keeps your place in line on a call and alerts you when a real person answers.
More Fun in Messages
Messages now let you add fun backgrounds and create polls in group chats. Spam detection is also improved, so you see fewer junk messages.
Safari, FaceTime, and Music Updates
Safari has a new floating tab bar. FaceTime hides buttons during calls to show faces better. The Music app now shows lyrics in your language and helps you pronounce foreign lyrics.
New Games App
A new Games app puts all your games in one place, making it easier to find and play them.
Smart Translation and Maps
iOS 26 lets you talk to people who speak other languages, showing live translations in Messages, FaceTime, and Phone. Maps now remembers places you visit often and gives you traffic alerts.
CarPlay and Wallet
CarPlay shows widgets and live activities, like coffee orders or flight updates. The Wallet app can now store digital ID for travel and track packages from your messages.
AI Features and More
Apple Intelligence powers fun emoji combos, better reminders, and smart photo searching. You can even create calendar events from a poster or screenshot.
Hidden Features
There are other small but useful updates too:
-
Use AirPods to start video recording.
-
Pick your own alarm snooze time.
-
Record better audio with AirPods.
-
New features for Braille users.
-
More tools for journaling and parental controls.
