The Miami Dolphins are trying to trade their cornerback, Jalen Ramsey. But that may become more difficult now because another top cornerback, Jaire Alexander, is available as a free agent.

Alexander, who just left the Green Bay Packers, is younger and possibly better than Ramsey. Also, since he's a free agent, any team can sign him without giving anything in return — unlike a trade, which usually requires giving up players or draft picks.

Alexander was earning $16.15 million per year. Ramsey is still owed more than $20 million. Since no team was willing to trade for Alexander at $16 million, it's hard to imagine a team would trade for Ramsey and also pay him even more.

Now that Alexander is available, teams that were interested in Ramsey have more options — and more bargaining power. If a team signs Alexander, they won’t need Ramsey, which could reduce the number of teams still interested in him. That puts the Dolphins in a difficult position when trying to trade him.

So far, only the Los Angeles Rams have shown interest in Ramsey. It's not clear yet if they also want Alexander.
